Bluboo are launching a new smartphone that packs a large battery and World 4G Mode for global LTE support.
As we have mentioned before Bluboo are one of the original Chinese Android smartphone makers from way back in the day. If you remember back when the JiaYu G3 was king then you most likely have some recollection of Bluboo and the phones they were making at around the same time.
Like a lot of Chinese phone makers, Bluboo have recently switched their focus away from the domestic phone market and are readying a new range of devices for international sale.
The newest in the range will be the Bluboo X550 smartphone which has two big advantages over rival phones. The first being that the Bluboo X550 has a large 5300mAh battery, which is just a monster battery for any phone. The second hightlight being the use of a Mediatek MT6735 processor a variant on current SoC models with added Global 4G mode.

According the Bluboo the X550 has enough battery power for 3 days of continuous use or 30 days of standby, while Mediatek say the MT6753 SoC is a quad-core 64bit chips with 4G LTE World Mode supporting Rel. 9, Cat. 4 LTE (FDD & TDD), DC-HSPA+, TD-SCDMA, CDMA2000 1x/EVDO Rev. A, EDGE.
Bluboo are expected to release more information after the Easter holiday.

Finally a large battery phone which supports 4G networks. Hope it won’t take them too long to release it and that the pricing is competitive
There is already the Huawei Mate 2, 6 inches, 4000mah… makes 2 days with heavy use. 240$. I use it for 3 months.. really good phone.
Yeah but 6 inch is too big a screen for me and besides that it doesn’t support the right 4g bands for me

Today I just reached ShenZhen and straight went to huaqiangbei. Browsed through the whole street and visited more than 10 malls. No where to be seen bluboo, elephone, jiayu, onda and other cool brand. I even asked some local people there, they dont even heard of those brand.
The whole street filled up with samsung, apple, oppo, vivo, xiaomi, huawei and meizu.
What the fucuk?
Everyone is selling power bank, usb cables, phone case and earphones. Where is all the cool phones and tablets?????
Similar to when I went last year, not so many small brands to be found… I saw a small Jiayu store in Baoan that seemed to had closed down for awhile but they still had the store sign up. My guess is they’re probably just focusing on online presence ie tmall, jindong and taobao. I didn’t even buy my iwork 8 tablet in a store when I went last January I just bought it online. To be honest it’s probably better that way if you’re a foreigner because I guarantee you’d get given a crap price if you wanted to try and buy from a physical store with no price tags.
It’d be good to hear Andi’s comments on this one, I’ve seen a couple of vids of him wondering round phone cities there in the past and that made me want to go there one day, but it would seem from what you’re saying that it’s not like that anymore..?
Hi, it has always been really hard to find the small brands in Shenzhen markets. I was really shocked the first time I arrived in SZ and found nothing but big names and cheap clones. As mentioned above there are a few JiaYu stores knocking about but not many, Zopo also have a few store too. Also as mentioned above if you ask a Chinese person about JiaYu, Zopo, Elepehone etc they are likely to never have heard of them. These companies are all online and in recent years are mainly focussing on international markets rather than the saturated domestic market.

Bluboo, Elephone, Jiayu, Mlais and many others covered on this website are not “cool” in China. You’d be hard-pressed to find the average Chinese consumer who’s even heard of them. Strong brand identity, strong retail presence, style + trend, and carrier-recognized support + subsidies matter most. True, most sales still happen at the lower end of the price spectrum, but the biggest winners there have invested a lot of money and expertise in designing and supporting those products. The time for cheap, faceless products with oddball names offering limited to no support has passed.
You nailed it. While I won’t comment on the products themselves, these brands are garbage probably not even worth the cost of filing a trademark application. They have absolutely no identity. My colleagues (local Chinese) have also never heard about these brands.

Uh oh, someone made a “bluboo” in coming up with the English name. If we were to start a Chinese Brand Name Hall of Shame, these would be the honorary inductees: Bluboo, DingDing, Doggee, Elephone, Mlais, and Technology Happy Life.
