Huawei’s latest, the Huawei P8, has been officially announced in London. Here are full specifications and details.
As we had already pointed out early this week, there are 10 big launches this week and already we have been through a handful of them. Yesterday LeTV launched their trio of flagship phones, this morning Meizu released a new version of the MX4 Pro and headphones, while Xiaomi launched the black Mi Note and announced their plans to buy Segway.
This afternoon in London, Huawei are launching their new phone, and surprise surprise the P8’s spec is pretty much what the rumours had suggested.
Coming in Mysitc Champagne, Titanium Grey, Gold or Carbon Black, the Huawei P8 takes the reigns from the P7 that launched last year. Like we have seen from other phone makers, Huawei have gone for a thin chassis on the phone, just 6.4mm, yet packed the space out with as much as possible.
Gizchina News of the week
As rumours and tipsters had hinted, the P8 comes with a 5.2-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 rather than a higher res 2K panel, and just as well as the battery is smaller than some of the competition at 2680mAh!
A self devleoped Kirin 930 processor features 8-cores and 64bit, bit.LITTLE architecture based on 4 x A53 2.0Ghz and 4 x A53 1.5Ghz cores. These cores switch automatically for better performance and battery life. The SoC also has 3GB RAM to hand for fast multi-tasking.
Huawei have promised some impressive camera features from the front 8 mega-pixel and rear 13 mega-pixel camera with dual LED flash. OIS will keep images still while software features including a movie editor and light painting modes looks interesting.
Dimensions of the Huawei P8 are 144.9 x 71.8 x 6.4mm. The glass front and rear are completely smooth and interestingly there is no rear fingerprint scanner as some leaks had suggested. The P8 also offers dual SIM and room for up to 128GB SD card in addition to the 16GB of internal memory.
The last point is the OS which is Huawei’s latest EMUI 3.1 based on Android 5.0.
Pricing for the Huawei P8 will start at $530 (that’s the international price). Fans of the phone in Europe can buy it in April while US customers should wait until May.
So what do you think of the Huawei P8? In my opinion the phone is nice, but compared to some of the other phones we have seen this year we are left wanting much much more from Huawei.

HA…..HA……HA
In my opinion it’s a little bit expensive. I would imagine a 400-450$ price tag.
It is.
P7 was released at 480$.
Too expensive, shocked by the lack of fingerprint scanner and no 64 bit CPU to go with lollipop. What GPU is this using as there were rumours of a different one to the Kirin 925.
Same as Honor 6, Mali-T624.

I totally agree, the lack of fingerprint scanner is really strange. Flagship phone? No way.
Kirin 930 is a 64bit CPU, but the GPU is the same.
Yes must’ve read it wrong yesterday as I’m sure I saw 4xA15 and 4xA7 cores! Lol basically the mt6752 with different gpu then.
It really is pretty though…
I really wouldn’t mind buying one of I had the money. It’s bloody stunning to look at.
Give a good reason why i should buy this phone at 530 dollars, when LETV phones are at the same price and even lower with monster specs compared to this one.
Design. That’s pretty much the main selling point of Huawei’s P-series. You want power, wait for either the new Mate or a new D-series phone.
They make the best looking phones out there. But I’m sure people will disagree about this too. Just because
:p
As usually Huawei disappointed again. They won’t sell much of them with that price if any.
That’s what they said about the P7, but it was still successful enough to get a successor.
Come on this is worth 280$ top, make it 300$ for design. EU costumers won’t buy it & same goes for Chinese, US costumers might but Huawei is still not quite there yet.
Yes – but the P7 had a breaking good Fingerp. censor, and P8 has none – none !!! – what a joke, at a time where contactless payments and id. recognition via F. censors has become a MUST in every new premium flagship mobile internationally.
its pretty but the spec is not high end whilst I am fine with fhd screens in general the phone cannot justify the $530 price tag.
It does not have the brand awareness or backup of companies like apple or samsung, it is just a china phone with delusions of pricing grandure lol
Actually, Huawei is a major player in the international smartphone market these days. They might not have brand awareness like Apple or Samsung, but they do have enough awareness that people know how to pronounce their name correctly.
nope… too expensive.
Hmm, must say that i am disappointed.. For that price, that low spec and No Fingerprint touchsensor? Fingerprint sensor is used now both on Apple and Samsung and also Mate7 and some other smaller brands. Why have you forgot that on P8? Alipay? Transactions? Security? Common, a bracelet???? That is a joke. Common Huawei, give us a phone worth the money. And do not forget the fingerprint sensor next time, i hate PIN codes and passwords. Security bracelet is a huge JOKE…
Fingerprint sensors are dividing nations.
nonsense – Airyl. – Finger – tuchcensors is a MUST Internationally in the year of 2015 and years ahead.
I agree, but some people seem to be really against fingerprint sensors.
I have had it one two phones and It’s a nice feature to have but it’s not make or break for me. I won’t not buy a phone if it doesn’t have one. Would I would prefer is manual camera controls over a fingerprint sensor.
$530 is ridiculous. Makes the LeTV look even better value along with better specs.
Why no WLAN-ac in 2015?!
I liked the show. Just one person who was giving us an introtuce about the new mobiles possibilities.
The P series are targeting the style conscious not the spec hungry consumers.
Yesterday everybody was mocking LeTV but now they are praising them for the price/value of their devices.
And wait to hear about the price of oppo and vivo, they will probably charge 200 extra bucks for the SD card slot! LoL
Finally an ethical company that provides a SD card slot so we can store our porn movies! And they are giving it away almost for free! 530$, really??? That cheap?!?
#$∆®€∆$M
There’s the truth unfortunately.
I didn’t mean on mocking huawei.
Within big companies there’s none anymore that provides us SD card slot or if they do then the solution is not affordable.
All LG phones have SD card slots.
They are not really cheap, like oppo and vivo.
Maybe Nubia, but I can’t think of anybody else
Yes, but when was the last time a big brand sold anything cheap? We could include the Redmi 2 if Xiaomi is included.
Big ones fall hard & it’s Huaweis turn now. (-:
That’s the exact same thing people were saying when the P7 launched. It still sold well.
& they did fall, from 3rd largest manufacturer to 5ft. As they are not competitive anywhere expect this trend to continue.
I am going for LeTv S1
Splendid.

what hypocritical ass wipes, i have read so many article’s on huawei slating other phones for using small batteries and then they go stick a tiny one on a flagship phone, then give us a shit option on an alternative that they call “max” which is basically a tablet with identical specs, really expected a little more than a phone which seems as powerful as the zenfone 2 (ze551ml) at double the price.
Its 6.4mm slim phone. Huawei never bragged about battery on P series. The P6 was 6.1mm with 2000mAh, P7 with 6.5mm with 2500mAh, and P8 is 6.4mm with 2680mAh.
id be fine if they bragged about it on their other phones which they have made. i’m merely pointing out that they are happy to slate other phone makers for the use of a small battery and they have gone and used one their selves

I want a SnapDragon 810 + 4GB Ram + 128GB Rom + SD Card + Global 4G LTE + Dual Sim + 5.2″ 2K screen + Gorilla Glass 4 + Metal/Alloy body + 3500 MaH Battery + 20.1 MP OIS shooter and a 13MP Front shooter + Bezelless phone in 2015.
Preferably under $200. C’mon China, make me happy.
You do know that’s impossible, right?
It’s possible but he will have to wait another two years for it to happen. 😀
That specs will be on Huawei D3. But don’t expect that price at all. For budget priced ones you have to wait for Honor series.
There has been no leaks on the D3 .
So, how can you be so sure about the D3 .
I think it will be Mate 8 not D3 .
There has also been roumores about Kirin 940 and 950 .
And Kirin 940 will come earlier then Kirin 950 .
I think 950 will come next year .
For Mate 8 it will be Kirin 940 .
Mate has been the performence serise for Huawei while P is more design oriented .
D8 actually.

Dude i know that, plus i know we had a discussion on it on this site when the same was posted here prior to being posted on phonearena.
Point is that there is a D8 with Kirin 950.
Keep dreaming.
SD 810 is over hyped crap , go read reviews on it !
in 2015 no chip should drain battery this fast.
this year Meizu will have a awesome phone cause of exynos 7.

Yes, I was expecting a lot more. This is not a flagship phone Without fingerprint sensor. Using password sucks big time and that is why people either use a simple one or no password…All focus on the camera is so dull and 2013. It’s way to expensive compared to the competition.
I thought Huawei was aiming for the #1 spot in this industry, but clearly that is not the case. You have to be better then this to come closer to Apple, Samsung, start with All in fingerprint sensor so we can use the smartphone for payments, key, starting the car etc etc etc…
You were expecting a lot more? From their P-series? You guys have been making the same mistake for a few years now. There’s no point hoping for much in the specs and features department from this series of phones. This is a line aimed directly at the standard consumer who doesn’t care about specs and wouldn’t use features like the fingerprint sensor outside of showing off.
The main emphasis here is on design. This is for people who want to proudly show of their phone in front of iPhone users knowing that it’s probably the best looking around. The same type of people who’d avoid using a China phone just because it doesn’t look better than an iPhone.
You’re supposed to set your expectations high when the Mate series comes around. That’s when it really matters to people like us.

Always love the looks of Huawei phones but can never get by their horrible UI. Are they easy to root and good ROM’s available?
yep easy to root but custom roms are well not much populated i´d say 5~10 roms after a few months (if they open the code earlier the (good) custom roms will come earlier) ;D
have you used their UI ? Don’t let the theme (which there are literally hundreds available) put you off.
Yes I have used it and it was horrible. I had a P6 as a work phone for awhile.
P6 is 2013. Cant compare any 2013 UI with 2015. Emui 3.0+ is a total revamp over that.
Maybe it is but I can only base my purchases on past experiences and my past experience with Huawei was amazing build quality let down by poor UI. I’ll have to test it out and see if I like it better than MIUI or Flyme.
EMUI 3.0 is much improved over the old, antique looking version on the P6.
From what I have seen in videos it looks like 2.3 with a fresh coat of paint. I will try it out eventually though and see if I like it better than Miui.
With all that competition the price seems steep for the performance offered here. I`d rather go with the LG Flex2, or the G4 when it comes out.
P8 is a neat upgrade for the P7 users, but unsurprisingly may not be enough for a Mate 7 user to upgrade. P8 sticks to its main features being the best looking phone on the market, slim, and powerful camera. Lots of great design changes over the P7. The gpu is just above average in 2015, but CPU is 64bit, and also A53 unlike the A7 & A15 on the Kirin 920s chip used on Honor 6/6plus and Mate 7. The positive results in battery and performance should show.
Also impressed with the improvements made in camera. I thought they would have just played around with dual camera used on Honor 6 plus but with increase leaks of no dual camera i expected they might screw up with nothing to offer on P8 camera. Instead they surprised with a lot of different improvements in camera that it is in fact a major advertising point.
Btw P8 is now on Huawei site: http://consumer.huawei.com/minisite/worldwide/p8/index.htm
I am mostly disappointed with the kirin 930 I really thought that huawei will use A57 cores for their big.litlle chip.
Well you expected wrongly. The Huawei top end chip in 2015 the Kirin 950 will be on the Ascend D3 unveiling in June/July, and this was leaked back in last quarter of 2014.
Huawei will need to fasten their chip release cycle so that it is timed for unveiling on P series. That said, they did atleast introduce an advanced “A53e” core version which sounds logical knowing that battery performance and heat was always an important factor to be improved for P series users.
P 8 – What a fiasko. Unbelievable that Huawei believes their new premium flagship will sell anything at all, when the customers realise it is without a Fingerprint tuch. Without the Fingerprint tuch, as in Huawei´s great succes – the Mate 7 – it has not a single chance. What a silly joke !
Some expect a bit too much, some even under illusion there was a fingerprint sensor on the power button. Lol. Cool idea but tech not advanced to pull something like that in 2015.
From personal experience of brother using the fingerprint on Mate 7, it was cool at first but not used later on. So i don’t expect that to be a killer issue in long term other than disappointments of those who would never buy the phone anyway. It would look ugly too on the back of P8.

I bought one of the first Mate 7 for sale in Sweden 5 month ago, allthough beeing from Denmark, as it was not for sale in my country. My Mate 7 finger-tuch is working eccelent and saves me a lot of time and I apreaseate the extra safety/security it gives, – wonderfull not having to remember all the silly codes ect. any more. It can bee stolen but without the serious consequenses of theft of private correspondance id. as before when using my old Nokia mobile , and within the comming year we will se it work along the Mastercard/biometric giving far more security in our dayli life.
