CyanogenMod 12.1 makes its way on to Mediatek powered phones in this video posted by phone maker elephone.
Elephone have been taking a good long look and vested interested in the alternate ROM community. The results have included them offering alternate ROMs to download for their range of Android phones, and the development of their own PC suite to make installation of such ROM’s a simple one click affair.
The latest system the Elephone team are working on is CyanogenMod 12.1. This is the latest build of the popular Android ROM and is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. The video below shows CM12.1 in action on the Mediatek powered P3000S, marking it the first time to see CM12.1 running on an MTK chip.
Gizchina News of the week
It’s quite a feat to have ported the ROM so quickly, but before the system is released to customers it really needs some major work done. Performance seems very slow with the UI lagging a lot. Still, it is a step in the right direction and we hope to see a snappier and stable version released in the coming weeks.

it’s first smartphone supported CM12 !!
p3000s 3gb? mtk 6752?
the video is using elephone p3000s 2gb version.
nice job elephone team. you made great devices lately.
we will keep expecting and be surprised!
Except you released a third P6000 version and changed the camera sensor to samsung. Now every rom other than stock doesn’t recognize the rear camera. CM12.1 is not working and there is no alternative other than stock, and the stock version lags even when scrolling on the home screen. Since you obviously sold small numbers of this revision, your “dev team” doesn’t care to fix the lag problem. I was expecting, but I wasn’t surprised by your bad support. Awful manufacturer.

hmm… quite the move elephone!
bravo 😀
BUTTT , i have no idea whats the advantage of having cyanogen on a phone in comparison to STOCK android… so explain someone ?
On previously versions, Cyanogen gave us the options to customize about everything on Android, and include also very nice features. For me the focus remains more in theming customizations, on the newest versions. But anyway, I still have to see what is the real big difference which would make me choose Cyanogen 12 over the stock lollipop, I’ve not saw yet anything.
thx 🙂
Yes, theming mainly but there’s also lots if cool little tweaks added in like sliding along the notification bar to adjust the brightness, double tap the notification bar to make the device sleep, privacy options and a silly amount of customization…

Isn’t CyanogenMod 12.1 based on Android 5.1 and 12.0 based on 5.0?
I believe so yes

Great, the ability to install different ROMs was a major reason to buy a P6000 recently (it hasn’t arrived yet). Let’s hope CM 12.1 will work for that phone too.
