Waiting to get your hands on the Elephone P7000? So are we and we cannot wait to try out ColorOS and Flyme on the phone.
In the following video Elephone have loaded Meizu’s Flyme OS and Oppo’s ColorOS on their, soon to be released, Elephone P7000 smartphone.
Elephone have been working on adding custom ROMS to plenty of their smartphones over the past few months and we have seen ports of MIUI, LEWA, and even CyanogenMod on Elephone phones in the past.
In the video below ColorOS and Flyme seem to be working quite well on the 64bit MT6752, 3GB RAM phone, maybe not has snappy as the ROM’s might be native phones but pretty good for a first release. Both ROM versions, ColorOS 2.0.1 and Flyme 4.2.0, are based on Android 4.4.4 Kitkat.

In the video we get to see the camera application and it appears that the various camera feature from both ROMs are available which is very interesting, it would be good to see how well the camera performs as well as seeing if the fingerprint scanner actually works too.
Let’s hope that these ROMs and others are available for the P7000 at launch.
I sincerely hope they ship it with 1 good rom and not a selection of 5 half baked ones.

Ye, that’s a bit like what Umi are doing with the Zero currently, ye fine, they shout from the roof tops about this RootJoy software of theres but none of the ‘alternate’ roms are stable… Their own official rom still isn’t quite spot on! I hope Heffalump don’t do the same…
Whats the point of a 64 bit chip if they still use kitkat. I wont even buy this device if they dont even use it by default
Even with Lollipop, 64 bit is still in its infancy. It will be at least another 1-2 years before it offers major advantages over 32 bit SoC’s. Right now its nothing more marketing.

I noticed that also… Wouldn’t be the first time Elephone have done that! P2000 I believe didn’t have backlit capactive buttons, I think they were just painted/coloured red…

Oh dear that’s not good, if they have run out of stock then the ‘right’ thing to do would’ve been to upgrade it. Whos to say they ever intended using the IMX214 in the first place? Was probably a marketing trick as it looks good on the spec sheet and helps sell phones.
Indeed. If you want a cast iron decent camera I’d go for the Blackview Alife S1, they might have interpolated it, but the camera specs rock. They wouldn’t dare swap in something else.
What would they upgrade it with? The next step up from the 214 is the 220 (20.7mp). The 6752 only supports up to 16mp sensors, the only 16mp sensor Sony has is the 240 which appears in the Note 4 and S6. To use that sensor Elephone would have had to raise the price, assuming they even have access to that sensor (so far only Samsung has used it). Elephone could have ditched Sony altogether and used an OV 16mp sensor, but that would have been a bigger PR mess. Instead they chose the 135 which has the same sensor size as the 214. Most of the specs of the 135 and 214 are identical, the major difference between the two is the 214 can shoot video in 4K (30fps) the 135 can’t, and the 214 can shoot 1080p at 60fps to the 135’s 30fps.

I think what you said in the other post is right: the IMX135 will probably in all the $160 ‘discount’ models. I do not enjoy this news. Like I said before, I do appreciate their openness about the sensor (it would have hugely back-fired if they didn’t) but I really wouldn’t want the IMX135 when I know there is also an IMX214 version 😀
I’m that guy who orders an 3GB Ecoo E04 when he already has the 2GB version..(yeah, I did that) so this entire sensor thing is not going too great for me 😉
I’ve had a response from Andi, so hopefully there will be a proper report. This whole discount thing just doesn’t make sense (there’s still nearly a month to go on the normal price presale) unless it is purely to get rid of these underspecced models. Makes you also wonder what they’ll put in all their other upcoming phones if IMX214 are in such short supply.
Did they perhaps get stiffed by the factory and this is their attempt at a positive spin.
And Sony can’t be too happy about all these false claims either, doesn’t put them in good light if their name is being wrongly applied to inferior items.
This Chinese phone business is a dangerous game, I have 5 and counting from the last 6 months. Probably should avoid these sites for at least year, then go for whatever is best at the time. My Iphone 4s lasted me 3 years without concern until I saw the light.
Why would Sony care the IMX135 is still one of their products. I have used phones with that sensor (mostly THL’s) and they all took excellent pictures.
Why would Sony care?! That’s funny, I think it’s something to do with good business practices and keeping a good name. I was speaking generally, there have been many occasions where Sony’s name has been falsely attached and the end product actually used OV or ‘Sonny’. You really think Sony doesn’t care about that? Even in this this case a newer higher spec model being swapped out for an older inferior one, doesn’t matter how good it is,Sony still spent millions in R&D to produce the latest modules. If there hadn’t of been a few recent public ‘outings’, this one would probably not have been ‘officially’ revealed either (in small print on one web page linked with a promotion…).
Good business practices and Sony is laughable in the same sentence (ask anybody who uses PSN). I think the only thing Sony really cares about is how much money they are going to make. And whether this phone is using the 214 or the 135 it’s still cash in their pockets. Sony would care if they were marketing it as a Sony IMX 214 and were really using an OV sensor but that is not the case here, here it is a Sony sensor regardless.
The IMX135 can still be a very good camera depending on the rest of the hardware.

What is the point? Would you rather Elephone lie to you and not tell you that they ran out of 214 sensors? Or would you rather they wait until the phone has already shipped and it’s too late? I would much rather them tell me now before I pay for it so I still have time to decide if it is right for me or not.
So they told you? You spotted it? All the resellers have updated their presale information and everyone knows. I think not.
It’s on their website which you pointed out. As for resellers I found two that have that information, 1949deal has it listed in the description and to2c has it in the comments section. Some resellers had the wrong specs entirely (16mp camera). Some had no mention of who makes the camera just that it was 13mp. I never trust resellers specs to begin with, I always check with the actual company.
If Elephone really wanted to cheat you they wouldn’t have announced this on the first day of their big sale, weeks before the phones actually ship. People can still get refunds now. If they wanted to cheat you they either would have waited to “confirm” this months from now or never said it at all.
This is something every smaller phone maker should do. Instead of shipping with a poorly built ROM, ship with stock android and make it easier to use custom ROM’s that are actually good.
