$483 for the Snapdragon 615 Oppo R7?

oppo r7

We’re already used to the idea that Oppo phones always have an added premium, but how to you guys feel about the possibility of $483 for the Oppo R7?

If you have seen the various photos and video’s of a borderless Oppo phone posted online then you have seen the Oppo R7. The R7 is set to be a slender magnesium phone with zero bezel design heading to launch later this month.

Specifications for the new phone include a 5-inch 1080p display, octacore Snapdragon 615 chipset, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, 2320mAh battery , 13 mega-pixel camera and a thickness of only 6.3mm.

If the leaks are anything to go by then it is a lovely looking machine with a beautifully crafted design, but it is going to be a little pricey.

Leaked images from an internal Oppo presentation show that Oppo intend to target the Huawei P8 with the R7 and will price the phone at 2999 Yuan (The P8 is 2888 Yuan). That’s roughly $483 for a Snapdragon 615 phone!

There is no doubt in my mind that the Oppo R7 is going to be a premium piece of kit but with slow updates and a mid-range chipset, I can’t help but feel the R7 is priced a little too steeply.

What do you guys think of the Oppo R7 price?

I’ve said it before but from the close up pics I’ve seen of this device it looks very, very well made and definitely premium looking but not at that price.

Any SD615 phone should not be sold for more than $250, irrespective of how premium it is touted to be. Oppo has a history of ridiculous pricing, and somehow they haven’t learnt their lesson yet. Only a matter of time before their balance sheets kick them in the rear.

The market is getting so tight that would make no sense to change their target right now.
They always made well made phones and they always asked for big bucks and that’s how it will always be. Obviously they won’t sell millions of them but they get better profit of each unit.

Exactly, they’re not targeting the market’s bottom feeders.

anyway…they are selling same OS as some other producers, phones with same spec…and asking for a 3x money. nope, i don’t think they will get back their investmens at R&D and producing of this thing.
but, if One+ cheap phone come with same spec and better battery, for competive price…it would be good for their owners

And I can buy a 4gb Zenfone 2 for something like $330. And the Zenfone will get 4G in the U.S. and the Oppo won’t. They both have a 13mp camera and one is borderless and one is not. Does a borderless phone in this competitive market warrant such a premium for Oppo or any others? I don’t think so.

ASUS will launch the Zenfone 2 in the U.S. on the 18th.

It`s not all about pricing, but at almost 500$ that`s never going to work. For that price they could have at least offered 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

    • Angry Mobile Nerd
      May 7, 2015

Me. I’d rather spend $483 on an Oppo than buying anything at any price from Micromax.

        May 8, 2015

I don’t think u have ever used a micromax…..they may rebrand but they know what to renrand and when and at what price and what quality….i’ll just give u an example recently mmx launched a phone named canvas spark….for $78 they have offered a quad core processor though its mtk 6582m 1 gb ram gorilla glass3 8 mp rear and 2 mp front camers combination 4.7″ qhd display and a 2000 mah battery…if u dont wanna buy…dont buy….without using their phones and commenting on them is bad…

In your original comment you asked “why should anyone spend $483 fro 615?” and I gave you an honest answer.

There are a lot of people out there that care about more than just price and specs. I am one of them. You are not one of them.

              May 8, 2015

Even i care about other things especially about camera…but these days mmx cameras are also good…you have alot of options for the same specked phone in different brands at lower price…i just gave an example of yureka coz it was the cheapest 615 ive seen and u know that oppo doesnt spen $483 on manufacturing r7 right there will be a profit margin which will be high compared to other brands of same specs…coz of its cheap price ot doesnt mean micromax phones are cheap…its their pricing strategy….even if u wanna buy a mmx u can buy it and use it happily…am using it for past 8 months in germany which i bought in India…

    hahahhahaha…
ok, maye it’s premium in China, and they are OK with that. (even in China, coustemers could buy a lott beter for that money, but let sey OPPO is brand there…as Apple is, so they can take litlle more money for same sh** )
but, if they wonna to do something in europe and rest of the world, where on this price go some extra tax (lets say 20%) they dont have chanse.

yes, it’s ok phone, classic midranger with nice looks…but for same price, we could buy LG G3, Sony Z3, Samsung S5…..and lot more better phones.

+battery is shit, i can’t understand that they go on so low mAh with 5′ FHD phone…it won’t go even one full day

$483? I got my Oppo for less and got a bunch of accessories along with my phone. This is not worth 483 friggen dollars.

Design always commands more money than technology. Regardless of whether we techies like it or not. Look how Apple is raking in tge dough.
