The name Vivo usually goes hand in hand with expensive, but the launch of the Vivo X5Pro yesterday has a surprisingly low price tag!
Yesterday Vivo announced the Vivo X5Pro for the Chinese phone market. Although not a flagship phone, it does have a number of features that aren’t very common on Android devices.
For example the phone boasts super fast PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus) for the main camera, an 8 mega-pixel front camera capable of taking 32mega-pixel selfies, a retina scanner for security and the usual HiFi audio chips that Vivo so often offer.

With those interesting features, high end glass and alloy build, and the usual mid range specifications (2GB RAM, 5.2-inch 1080 display, 64bit processor), many of us were expecting a typically high Vivo price tag but this is not the case.
Vivo today announced the Vivo X5Pro will be available from 25th May at a price of only 2598 Yuan ($419) which is lower than usual for a Vivo phone. Vivo plan to release the Vivo X5Pro in their other global markets between now and July, we hope pricing is kept at around the same.

$419? Hehehe. That’s Vivo for you. That’s translates $450 to $475 for the end user.
uhhh, $419 translates to $419 unless you want to give money to a reseller. Vivo (or any other Chinese phone maker for that matter) does not take reseller mark-ups into account when deciding on the pricing of their devices.
Ummm. Can you purchase the phone from Vivo directly? I don’t get. Would AliExpress and others sell at same price? $419?
Yes, I can. There’s got to be at least half a dozen Vivo stores within’ 300m of me.
Am in Nigeria. Resellers are the only option mate. Is there an online Vivo store?
Honestly of course in your case you are going to have to go the reseller route, however, people need to be more thankful they have access now more than ever to buy these devices in the first place. I remember in the early 2000’s resellers charged a much, much higher premium than they do today — upwards of MSRP + 50% was quite common back then if you wanted a phone from another region.
Not everyone has Vivo stores in there country(in Thailand we do), so they have no choice but to “give money to a reseller” if they want a Vivo phone.
Frankly If its not conveinent to buy I suggest just buy something else locally, we are talking about Android phones here afterall. Anyone abroad who wants a Vivo that badly can pay. Like I said below reseller premiums are at a all time low it’s not nearly as expensive as it use to be.
You people should actually be thankful there are resellers because without them most of you would have next to zero chance of getting your hands on any of these phones.

Where did I say that? You said without Resllers I would have “zero chance” of getting any of these phones. That does not apply to me as many of these brands are sold here in Thailand. Not to mention I travel regularly to China for work. So your condescending BS has nothing to do with me.
I said “next to zero chance” yet you’ve most likely bought from a reseller before, right? Actually I remember you talking about your good experiences buying from a reseller before.
I never said I haven’t bought from a reseller. Never once said that. But I have better than a “next to zero” change to get most Chinese phones. Oppo, Vivo, Lenovo, Huawei, Xiaomi and a few more are all sold officially in Thailand. Never have to deal with a reseller if I want any of those.
If it makes you feel better I buy my imported Pringles from a reseller (import supermarket) so that perhaps makes me a “you people” too although I never complain about the markup which was the basis of my original comment.
I buy my Pringles at 7-11, actually cost less here than they do back home.
419 + reseller fee, let say 50$ (minimum), plus tax, whic is in my case 25% and most EU coutries similar to that, so It’s more like 600$.
for that kind of money i can buy SGS6, or LG G4, with good warrenty, for which i don’t have to send phone back to china and wait 2 months.

Norway… But you need to suscribe for one year at one of operators. Since i allready do so, and i need to pay 40$ every month, it’s best solution to buy new phone for 40-50$ monthly, then give 600$ at once.
So i can buy new flagship every year for about 500-600$.

Got to say that the thin glass sandwich rectangle with big upper and lower bezels is getting increasingly boring and so is the strategy of charging too much just because they spend 3-5$ on a glass back. Gionee started it and others keep milking it to exhaustion.
You should do a head to head with the gionee elife s7. The Gionee wins on specs and dimensions , this one wins on eye candy and maybe audio.
You must not be aware of Vivo’s past history of prices. Usually a “midrange” Vivo costs over $600.
you know the main problem?..Many doesn’t need vivo product in mid-range price…just like apple, as people consider vivo to be trusty and premium brand, they need and ask vivo for a flagship like xplay 3s in his time…the price was okay then there too….
the things Al have waited and had expected from Vivo,all the way till now,for international users, is a flagship far beyond whats is s6/note 5 or ?????
Vivo might not match those brands with specs but they do match them in quality, they are very high quality devices and they use some of the best cameras and audio chips of any phone brand. I have yet to find a phone with better audio quality than a Vivo. They aren’t for everyone but they have a very loyal following who will gladly pay the money to own a Vivo. Just like Apple, there are more powerful phones and better speced phones than Apple, but Apples just work and people love them.

The value is good I think but I won’t cough up 400 or more dollars for a phone. That was the reason why I went into the China Phones in the firs place 🙂

Keep in mind that is the price if you live in a country where Vivo is officially sold, with reseller fees this will be well over $500. I can’t see paying even $400 for a phone with 2GB RAM and 1080p display.

And by all reports not a very good mid range SoC either.
Yeah, mostly when you compare it to it’s direct competitor MT6752. The 615 also is overheating on pretty normal tasks, I’m not against Qualcomm, but it’s good to see Mediatek SoCs and the Kirins slaping on their faces, monopoly is never something good! Competition bring good products for us.

buying luxury items doesn’t make you rich, it makes you broke. this device on the other hand is only a monthly payment for me, and i’m working low tier
For some people 2598 yuan isn’t a lot of money. We all have different salaries and different budgets for buying a phone. I recently bought my wife a Galaxy S6, it cost close to 4300 yuan. 2598 yuan by comparison seems like a drop in the bucket. Personally I won’t pay more than $350 USD (about 2200 yuan) for a phone for myself but like the saying goes “Happy wife, Happy life”.

2 GB RAM is a downer for this otherwise superb phone!
Great product though, and was surprised to see a Vivo at this price.
