The dual screen Siswoo R9 Darkmoon has surfaced once again this time with photos showing the 2nd E-ink display in action.

Dual-screen phones are becoming something of an interest to Chinese companies. After Yotaphone released their dual-screen Yotaphone model Chinese phone makers have jumped on the chance of releasing their own phones with a second display to cash in on the niche.

The Siswoo R9 Darkmoon comes with all the features you would expect from a high-end Chinese smartphone, an octacore 64bit chipset, Android Lollipop, LTE, NFC, 3GB RAM, 13 mega-pixel main camera, and 5-inch FHD display.

A second 4.7-inch E-ink display on the rear of the R9 Darkmoon has a resolution of 960 x 540, the idea behind the second display being that you can use it for reading emails, books and browsing at a lower drain on the battery meaning a longer useable battery life.

Siswoo do look to have something of an exciting product on their hands with the R9 Darkmoon, which also features a 3000mah battery and Qi Wireless charging, it just remains to be seen how much the phone will retail for once on sale.

I hope the R9 has a built-in light in the E-ink screen. In my Kobo Glo that makes wonderful reading at night. The R9 might even replace my Kobo when traveling then: makes one item less to pack

what is your Kobo model? HD?
and what do you think) that it is better to take: Amazon or Kobo? then I have a month and can not make a choice

I own a Kobo Aura. Amazon also makes fine e-readers. Big con for Amazon is that their readers only accept proprietary Kindle format and not the more commonly used e-pub format

You can easily convert books into Kindle format with Calibre though so it’s not such a big problem.

Yeah, I know. But it’s still a hassle. And I don’t like companies that try to force their own exclusive format

That would be most companies out there :)) Usually if they’re in a position to do it they will and well Amazon is in a position to do it πŸ™‚

Still if you really like/want the Kindle it’s not such a big problem. The even have their own conversion tool ( takes PDFs ,not sure if it takes ePub ) which then sends you the converted book via Wifi. It’s really easy to use.

I don’t like such companies either.. So R9 might be a better alternative and I’d like to give a try.

Looks like interface is not optimized for e-ink and just displays regular interface in grey-scale.

Yup, judging by the pictures it is reflecting the light, so I think you might be right. Unless that is a cover.

If I’m not mistaken, it’s frosted screen just like Kindle. πŸ™‚

Finally something I’m excited about … this does look like something other than all those 5.5 phones I call “clones” because they have almost nothing special.

    Not really interested in this.
