Open Thread: OnePlus 2 leak, ugly or otherwise?

OnePlus is finally ready to come out with its second phone. There’s been an unimaginable amount of anticipation, a lot of drama, heavy speculation and of course, a fair share of rumours.

Today however was a milestone as far as info about the upcoming OnePlus 2 is concerned. Earlier today, we got our hands on what seem like actual OnePlus 2 images for the first time ever. As you would expect from a company like OnePlus, the OnePlus 2 does look like a very radical device, at least design wise.

OnePlus 2: Ugly or otherwise?

Here we’d like to ask you: does the phone seem ugly to you, or is it a device you’re yearning to own? Of course, what you answer will be based on the leaks. It does seem like what we’re seeing are indeed actual images of the OnePlus 2.

So, leave your inhibitions and let us know — is the OnePlus 2 ugly, or otherwise?

I think they could have done something revolutionary and integrated the sensor into the display! To make the front look seamless!

      I’m agree… 100%

    • July 23, 2015

One Plus doesn’t do revolutionary. They take other people’s revolutions and pull them back one step. It’s the formula they use to try to make an affordable “flagship killer”. This is what they did with the OP1, and it looks like they’re doing the same with the OP2.

The difference this time around is that they don’t have Cyanogen to make the device a true revolution. Just OK hardware that isn’t leading on any front, and software that’s a year behind Google’s releases.

IMO: since the iPhone1 until Samsung released the Galaxy S6 Edge, in terms of design there was not any revolution at all. We reached the level of technologies where we cannot do any more revolution. Maybe our grandchildren will see something, but for us, we are done, or maybe we might see something in the battery, but that’s it.

IMO it is not that bad, I think we should wait till we see it on, maybe it is bezeless. Furthermore I can see four buttons in that image so there could be a fotocamera-button.The design it is just a matter of not being familiar to it, like when I saw a BMW X6 for the first time 😀

Obviously, X6’s look was love at first sight for me, whereas OPT’s leaked images are not ‘tempting’ so far…

This isn’t the final device yet. Let’s wait and see the official images and the device. When I first saw M9 leak, T looked very ugly without that shiny finish on it’s back but the final product was too cool to be a fashion accessory. M9 looked like a jewelry for sure. I’m waiting for the official images.

the design did not changed a lot (what a pity), for me, personally, it still looks ugly. I thought they wanted to change the whole appearance of the next phone? It is definitly nothing special… .

Umm, leaks, leaks… I’ll wait until July 27th to discover the actual device. What I saw… wait! I didn’t see anything actually: a black screen? a physical home button? this could be all shopped or even made-up to keep the secret safe…
If that “button” is for real, then they lost my money… but time will tell, Keep Calm And Wait July 27th 🙂

I hope it’s not the real thing anyway… It’s pretty hanging!

I think this leak might be legit since it appeared on TENAA site. Nevertheless, I feel like when OnePlus conceived the phone they didn’t spend any time or money in the design.

Shockingly bad, still can’t quite believe it to be honest. Flash above the camera really? Just looks so so wrong. Awful cheap looking front fingerprint sensor with a terrible shape, looks like an s6 knock off. Just terrible, genuinly very dissapointed, was not expecting it to be so bad. And before anyone tells me about the sandstone back, I have a OPO and the sandstone back is just horrendous, scratches so easily its a joke, looks completely messed up from all the scratches and scuffs.

I care more about functional design than aesthetics. A home button is always a bad idea and in this case the upper bezel looks huge too so not happy about that. About looks, that kind of front button is ugly (that also goes for Samsung and Meizu and anyone else doing it) and all else doesn’t look great either but TENAA pics are never favorable. The One had design that did not work for everybody, but i kinda liked it even if it wasn’t all that compact.

while home button does seem to “spoil” an otherwise flat and smooth front surface, it does have its benefit. for one… with the not-so-technologically-savvy people, having a flat surface with blank/ black display may cause some unease. with a button, natural reaction would be to try and press the button. but i guess once the smartphone interface becomes a “norm”, we can expect to see it being removed. 🙂

Boring design with ugly looking fingerprint button. Also don’t get why they would put the flash above the lens, it just looks odd. I really hope this is not the final design, otherwise it will be another disappointment this year and I really need a new phone.

Just read the new Moto X will probably be 5.5″ instead of 5.2″… why must all these devices become so big? Just held the Moto X 2014 last week and it has the perfect size. So many 5.5″ devices and only a handful 5″ or 5.2″.

Always was a fan of the OPO but it was just too big for me, otherwise I would’ve had one already. OPT will be smaller but might still be too big and with the SD810 we have to wait how it will perform.

    • July 23, 2015

hmmm… funny comment. i was thinking just the opposite. why are all these devices coming out at 5.5″ rather than 6″.

      • Lars
        July 23, 2015

Hehe, we all have our preferences :). Problem is that 90% of the devices seem to be 5.5″ these days.

        • Adam Irvine
          July 23, 2015

Just like 90% of devices have a 13mp sensor of some sort these days… A 5.5″ panel must be cheaper to get hold of because there’s so many of them available?

It’s also a bit like why almost everyone has suddenly decided to use the MT6753 instead of the more powerful MT6752… Mediatek must offer some sort of crazy incentive to go down that route..?

          • Eni
            July 23, 2015

Or there is a problem with mt6572 that we don’t know.

              July 23, 2015

Ye, I have thought this at times…

            July 24, 2015

For MT6753 it’s likely a matter of price and you also get CDMA2000 with it. It’s likely to be significantly smaller, so plenty cheaper.
For screen size they use what sells, smaller is cheaper but not much of a difference between 5 inch and 5.5 inch pricing. 5 inch 1080p can be as low as 15$ (without the touch layer and cover glass, the touch layer maybe as low as 4$) and 5.5 inch maybe as low as 17$. Display prices dropped a lot in 2014 and 2015,ofc not all panels have the same price, depends on quality and some cost a lot more. OnePLus One last year had a rather good panel.

Have to agree I used to think 5.5 was too big for a phone but having used a 5.7 for about 6 months (iOcean X8) it now seems too small. You really notice the difference when you go to watch a video on your device, it just looks better on bigger screens.

      • realjjj
        July 23, 2015

My problem is why all bigger devices cost way too much.
Going from 5.5 inch to 6 inch somehow adds 200$ to the retail price.
This year and last year there were a few 6 inch devices from ZTE, Lenovo, Google, Huawei, LeTV but nobody prices them anywhere close to where a 5.5 inch would be.

For me,it is a very good looking phone.Although, the real question is:does it worth this phone over zuk z1?Because both will have the same specs(only zuk will have CM),and they have 100$ price difference!I will definitely buy one of these 2,but I want both to be released and reviewed and then I will decide which one I will buy!

Stop making me laugh. When the first one+ was coming out they claimed it would have the best design around it didn’t it was just a slab maybe a nicer slab than most but still just a slab. The problem is that if you are going to make phones that cheap and not really make money from them the some things will have to suffer and design is one of them

      • balcobomber25
        July 23, 2015

The first One Plus was just the Oppo Find 7 with some minor changes. I disagree that design suffers with cheap phones, I think its more they just made some horrible decisions with the design. Several cheap phones have very good looks.

Why does this have to be OnePlus 2?
Why can’t it be a OPO Mini or another ‘non-flagship’ model from OPO? Does the TENAA site also mentions that this specific model is OnePlue 2?

I can understand why they bring the camera more to the centre (like nokias) however i dont understand why they put the flash at the far end instead of on the top of the lens or below. The finger print scanner looks tacky as the shape of the phone is very blocky and the scanner is oval shape it doesnt suit it. Its like wearing a gym short with a business shirt.

I like the Original leaks with the bamboo back that looked really nice. the new leak is hideous.
