HTC is not very well known for their mid range offerings, which are often overpriced and simply not worth it. We started seeing a slight change with the HTC E8 and E9, which were decently good phones with competitive enough price tags, but now HTC’s back to their old ways with the newly launched Desire 728.
The Desire 728 has a fairly standard HTC design, with a metal band going around the device and a pair of front facing speakers on the front. The phone is powered by MediaTek’s MTK6753 processor, which we’ve already seen in just about every Chinese phone that’s recently been released. This is supported by 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which should be fine for a mid-range device. The Desire 728 has a 5.5-inch 1280×720 HD display, a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front facing camera, as well as a 2800mAh battery.

Now all this may seem fine and dandy, but that all goes away once you see that it’s priced at $267. Yup, this mid-range device, with only average specs costs you $100 more than a Redmi Note 2 or Meizu M2 Note, which both boast similar or even superior specs.
