Sony might have pulled out of many smartphone markets across the globe, but it is not about to stop its smartphone business anytime soon. At the hustle and bustle of IFA 2019, the company has announced the Xperia 5 flagship. And while a Sony handset was inevitably expected, what was not expected was its Xperia 5 moniker jumping straight from Xperia 1. The Sony Xperia 5 is priced at $860 (699 Pounds) and will be available starting October. Pre-orders for the phone start next week for select European countries.

Gizchina News of the week

Coming to the design of the phone, it’s what we’ve come to expect from the Xperia line over the years. Not much has changed in that aspect, however, the Xperia 5 has much slimmer bezels at the front and a 21:9 CinemaWide aspect ratio in that very familiar boxy glass-metal build topped by Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The display is 6.1-inch Full-HD+ OLED and supports DCI-P3 colour gamut. Underneath, it hosts a Snapdragon 855 with 6GB of RAM and 128GB  of onboard expandable storage.

The Xperia flagship has a triple rear camera setup. There’s a 12MP primary Exmor RS sensor with f/1.6 aperture and 1.4um pixel size, a 12MP 135-degree ultra-wide sensor,  and a 12MP telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture and 960fps slow-mo. The front has an 8MP Exmor RS selfie shooter.  The Xperia 5 runs Android 9.0 Pie backed by a 3,140mAh battery and will come in Blue, Black, Red, and Gray paint coats.
