While the octacore revolution is well on the way here in China, we have still yet to see an octacore phone which really pushes the boundaries of what local Chinese phone makers can do, this is what makes the all Gorilla Glass iOcean X8 so tantalising.
iOcean currently have 3 octacore phones in their line-up. The iOcean X7S which is basically the 2014 version of the popular X7, and the iOcean G7, a 6.45 inch phablet, the third phone is more mysterious though and will be the first flagship octacore phone from iOcean for 2014.
iOcean X8 Design
When I visited iOcean last year I was amazed to learn that the small company had an office in the same building as one of the Oppo teams. This is probably why the original iOcean X7 looked so much like the Oppo Find 5, and possibly explains how the iOcean X8 shares it’s all Gorilla Glass and alloy body with the Oppo R1!
iOcean haven’t released many images of the phone, but from the press images we have managed to get our hands on, the iOcean X8 looks very much like the Oppo R1 which intern shares a few design idea from the iPhone.
Gizchina News of the week
Glass to the front and back of the sandwiches in an alloy body which also appears to house a similar external antenna design as the iPhone. The body is rather thin to measuring at just 7.7mm and featuring a flat design on the front and rear.
The display on the X8 is a FHD 1920 x 1080 unit, but is larger than the original iOcean X7 at 5.7-inch. 5.7-inch might sound like quite a large phone, but if iOcean have been able to keep the bezels to a minimum the phone still could be quite narrow and easy to handle.
The X8 features a unibody design to help it keep so thin, but means that the 2700mAh battery won’t be easily replacable by customers..
iOcean X8 Specifications
With the iOcean X8 being an early 2014 flagship phone the X8 still uses a 1080 display, more than enough for us, it also packs the late test 2.0Ghz version of the octacore Mediatek MT6592 processor, 2GB RAM, 13 mega-pixel rear camera, 32GB memory, 5Ghz Wifi, dual SIM (WCMDA) and improved noise reduction features.

A set launch date hasn’t been announced but we believe the iOcean X8 will go on sale after the Chinese New Year, possibly mid to late February. Chinese retail price should be around 1800 Yuan while international customers should be expecting prices of $300.

I Have to confess the iOcean is a good priceless chance to adquire a Xperia feeling phone. Congrutalotions for the Brand, Maybe the Best MTK6592 until now, let’s see the Huawei Honor 3X, (I wanted to see a MTK6592 with larger battery e.e, 3200 to 4000mAh)
Looks to be my dream phone. I am eagerly waiting for this.
Did you get it sir?Do you still have it?Any comment so far?I want to buy it and i want to know everything about it!Would be gratefull for a com of yours!
Definitively a must-have! Let’s hope it won’t have the same ‘problems’ that Zopo ZP998 suffers until now: buggy OS or missing features. My quad-core X7 was perfect: a new MT6592-2GHz is welcome 🙂
How long have you had the iOcean X7 for ?
Umm, 4 or 5 months now, from September 2013. Why? 😉
Hows the performance in terms of real life use, camera quality and battery life compared to other phones you have owned?
Well, considering the facts that
1) I’m not a ‘phonaholic’, chatting all day on Facebook or watching YouTube videos at work or playing Candy Crush ad nauseam
2) I’m very cautious about battery life
-turning off wifi and Bluetooth when un-needed
-always making full charge cycle from 3% to 100%
3) I ain’t installed beta-super-custom ROMs
…
I can say that X7 definitively fullfilled my needs:
* big screen and yet easy to handle
* very reliable (no crash or hangs so far)
* good and stable Wifi, OTG working
* GPS is not perfect, as already said and known.
I found the camera quality to be rather good but I ain’t an expert in photography. At least I can recognize my relatives on the pictures (just kidding 🙂 )
I’ve changed for the new Zopo lately, but there’s no relation with X7 being bad or else. Just a bigger size and an octa-core…
iOcean X7 is a must-have and you can expect price-drop in a near future (if it was your thought).
PS: worst phone I own in terms of battery life is my iPhone4 with iOS7 😛 : plugged everyday!
how are things such as camera, display, battery life compared to the zopo? and what issues/bugs are currently present the zopo? Also do the screen off touch controls work on the zopo? I might be considering it as an alternative if its good 😀
I haven’t tested my Zopo that much so far, but my overall impression is that battery life is pretty much the same (or better for Zopo – for my usage -> 2400mAh/2000mAh).
Display is really good both sides (clear bright), sound is better on Zopo
Current Zopo’s bugs (due to its youth) are:
* only one IMEI, so no dual-sim/dual standby (unless you trick the system)
* gesture/screen controls inoperant (I don’t really care about this)
* pre-rooting is buggy and that’s annoying.
Those would certainly be fixed in next firmware.
Otherwise, the phone is pretty cool and not so big; just that it’s not fully working out-of-the-box and that could be a no-no for most people.
Thanks alot 🙂

If the final phone really looks as good as the CAD-makeups and if they bring an updates LTE version soon, I will probably buy
The phone really looks good… I think it looks more than a Xperia Z(1) than an Iphone, though

Nice phone. But might go for Umi X3 or 3D69. I am in for functionality and not sleekness.
I think the battery on the Umi X3 is 3150 mAh if I remember correctly. I’m steering towards the Umi X3 if I had to choose between the two.
I heared many complains abt the iocean phones , hard to use it 1 year without using the warranty for problems ..
I prefer the UMI x3 from far.
We dt have information abt the 3d69, Is it a famous firm ? I prefer not to buy somthg unknown, i am not a tester 🙂
For the moment this umix3 is my next phone.
I dt wait for the 4G model. In my country 4G will begin only in 1 year, and noone knows what frequencies there will be.
do you suggest umi x3?Does it have mhl?Is it better than iocean x8 5.7 inch?
I wrote this one year ago .. since this time i learnt a lot abt chinese phones. Today I buy only good firms like ZTE Lenovo or Huawei …
Cheap firms like Zopo, Elephone Umi Iocean are not serious firms.. they dont build a phone for more than 6 months… after this the problems will begin.
Personnaly i ordered the Huawei Mate 2,,, i couls give my opinion abt it when i will receive it.
thanks for your answer my friend!I apreciate!Gonna check Huawei Mate!
