China Plans To Take On Nature With Weather Modification Tech

China’s scientist are intensifying efforts to control the weather, Zheng Guoguang, director of the Meteorological Administration (CMA) has said at a meeting on the central budget for modification.

The Director of the CMA warned of future water shortages for China and stressed the importance of increased efforts to develop ways to control certain weather phenomenon. Not only could weather modification techniques ease future water shortages, but it could also help prevent natural disasters.
China has spent 762 million Yuan ($114 million) on weather modification research and has some high profile successes such as the modification of the weather before the 2008 Olympic Games where silver iodine and salt ‘seeds’ were sprayed on clouds preventing the formation of unpredictable storms and disrupting the event.
