The HTC Butterfly 2 was confirmed for Japan late yesterday, when a phone carrier accidentally listed the device. Now, alleged images of the HTC Butterfly 2 have begun popping up on Weibo. And there appears to be something very unique about it.
The devices appear to have some similarities to its predecessor, most notably its variety of bright colors. Rumored specs for the device hit the internet in April when AnTuTu for it scores were posted online. The HTC Butterfly 2 will reportedly pack a 5.2 inch 1080p screen, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 CPU clocked at 2.3Ghz, a 13 MP main camera and a 5 MP front facing shooter. Unlike most of HTC’s flagship phones, it won’t feature “Ultrapixel” technology.
Gizchina News of the week
According to the listing from that Japanese carrier, the device will be a part of this summer’s line-up, but a more specific release date wasn’t listed. If they device leaves Japan, it may be renamed the HTC Deluxe 2, since its predecessor also took on the Deluxe moniker when it went overseas.
The device’s specs seem pretty close to HTC’s current flagship, the HTC One m8. But, if you look closely at the images, you can see something that looks like it might be a unique feature. We brought you news earlier of a potential Samsung Note 4 feature revealed in recent patents that included a technology that allows the bottom part of the phone to slide in and out. A GizChina reader called it a “deodorant stick” feature, which seemed apt.
From the images, you can see where the phone ends and the bottom part of the phone begins. Could HTC be taking a page out of Samsung’s book and be applying it here? Or could it just be evidence of a photoshopped, and thus faked, image?
They should revive the HTC 8S looks too.

What the what? This doesn’t look anything like the old butterfly which still looks great today.
