It looks like the government boffins at TENAA got things a little wrong as the Oppo R5 has officially launching in China with a body measuring only 4.85mm.
It was rumoured that Oppo would be launching a thin phone along with the Oppo N3, and here it is! The Oppo R5 is now the worlds thinnest Android smartphone beating the previous record holder, the Gionee Elife S5.1, by almost 1mm.
So TENAA go the measurements wrong but the rest of the hardware seems spot on. The processor is a 1.5Ghz Snapdragon 616 octacore, there is 2GB RAM and the dsplay is a 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080 model.

The R5 gets a 5 mega-pixel front and 13 mega-pixel rear camera, 2000mAh battery and VOOC fast charging. Oppo will launch the phone in China first with TD-LTE support only (so watch out if you plan to order one) and will offer the phone in silver and in a limited edition gold.
Chinese pricing for the Oppo R5 is 2999 Yuan which is around $490.
“Oppo will launch the phone in China first with TD-LTE support only” That’s the Chinese version
I’m a bit confused as to what the “R” series is for Oppo. I used to think that it consisted of their mid-range/ “budget” phones, but at $490 that doesn’t seem to be the case at all. How does this phone compare to the Find 7a (which sells for 499 on oppostyle)? Is this a lot better considering it’s a snapdragon octacore? (qualcomm also confuses me, is the 6xx series better than the 8xx series?)
Well specs are mid range on all the R series anyway. But the pricing as i said Oppo has never provided a budget friendly. Don’t think they plan too. Trying to pass themselves as premium line.
80xx series is better than 6xx in performance.. 615 is for mid-range using a53 64bit processors which is more power efficient and have better performance than the current common a7 processor.
So basically no one would buy this phone as the Oppo Find 7a is just $9 more and has a qualcomm 801 and a bigger battery?
The first pic seem to suggest that they don’t measure the thickness of the device ,just the frame and that would be total BS. No audio jack is plain ridiculous and the battery might be too small for 1080p.
Calling the Snapdragon 615 an octa core is a bit improper, i prefer to call it dual quad since the second cluster is much lower clocks.
It is a true octa-core, all cores are A53 and on the Oppo R5 specifically they clocked all of eight cores at 1.5GHz(according the “Eight-core 1.5GHz” in settings) which is different from the default quad 1.7 + quad 1.0 configuration your talking about.
