Qualcomm and Mediatek versions of the Zenfone 2 is a possibility

One of the more exciting phones launches at CES was the Asus Zenfone 2 with 4GB RAM, now reports are in that a Qualcomm and Mediatek variant could be in the works.

The Asus Zenfone 2 was the biggest surprise for us at CES this year. Not only does the new Asus look better than ever, but the hardware is all top notch too. At CES, Asus announced the flagship phone could boast up to 4GB RAM and run an Intel processor, however rumours suggest another version of the phone is a possibility.

Apparently Asus are working with Qualcomm on the possible release of a Snapdragon powered version of the Zenfone 2, while a Mediatek version of the phone could be released in emerging markets.

There are no details if the rest of the specifications will be changed of and what the pricing of these phones will be, we just hope the Zenfone 2 will launch soon so we can get our hands on it.

  I much rather prefer the Intel solution as GPU is practically the same and Intel`s CPU will turn out to be better in the long run, it has more than double the IPC on the Cortex A53, so i`ll stick with Intel.

I can’t imagine Intel would allow for this in their supply contracts. I would think the whole basis of ASUS offering this model at such good pricing is due to Intel providing the SoC for next to nothing for them to gain market share. And I can’t see any real advantages to offering alternative SoC’s.

  This is assuming they have anything in their contract preventing Asus from using other suppliers. Most likely their contract states that Asus will buy X amount of Intel Processors over X amount of time. Exclusive deals are becoming rarer these days. As long as they fulfill that part of the agreement they can work with everyone else.

    Hmmm, I don’t think you have any clue what’s in the contracts of international multi billion dollar companies. Nor do you provide any source for your claim that Exclusive deals are becoming rarer these days. Do you have some kind of contract data to back this up?

      I don’t need to provide sources for you and I don’t really care what you think you know or your agenda.
      I work with Chinese OEM’s and suppliers. I deal with contracts for phone parts on a daily basis. I have looked at more contracts this past week then you will in a lifetime. I can say with accuracy that very few companies have exclusive deals, some have suppliers they prefer to work with (i.e. Mediatek and Qualcomm) and only use their products but that is not an exclusive deal. The only where I ever see exclusive deals these day is with retailers (i.e. Xiaomi with Flipkart in India). This isn’t even getting into the fact that most of these phones are sold in multiple countries all with different laws and regulations regarding phone sales. But someone as well read as yourself obviously knows all this. Or were you too busy trying to look like the smartest guy in the room?

it doesn’t even care if it has 4 rams in it, no apps by now requires that size of capacity. It’s only a sales trick.
