Camera-centric Lenovo Vibe Shot with 16MP camera in the works, MWC launch likely

Vibe Shot… if the name reminds you of one phone, it has to be the Vivo Xshot. And like the Xshot, the Vibe Shot too is going to be a shutterbug’s delight.

According to reports, China’s Lenovo (the same company that impressed us with the Vibe X2 at the IFA) is working on the all new Vibe Shot for an MWC release. According to a report, the phone will have a 16 mega-pixel sensor to make for a very indulging camera experience (as the renders reveal also).

Gizchina News of the week

It won’t really be the worlds most powerful phone; it’ll however be able enough for your daily tasks thanks to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC, but with a bit if a twist — 3GB of RAM. Most phones that we’ve seen featuring the Snapdragon 615 have mostly been mid-range devices (or design experiments), and have usually 2GB of RAM on offer.

To make sure the phone is on top of its (imaging) game, Lenovo will also reportedly include triple-tone flash and laser auto-focus besides of course, OIS. Other purported features of the phone include 4G LTE support, 32GB of on-board memory (expandable via microSD) and a 5-inch 1080p display.

Given that the Vivo Xshot still happens to be a popular phone, it is clear that there’s definitely a market for devices like this one. So, which one would you rather go for? This, or the Xshot?

The last few Lenovo’s have been very promising but they are still bogged down by one of the worst versions of Android I have ever used. If they would just throw in the towel in either use near stock Android (except for the excellent camera app from Lenovo) I would seriously consider one. But as of right now my next phone is the Mi Note which has a very good camera for what I need.

That talk about their poorly performing Android is what popping up whenever it’s subject of any kind. This stops me from buying one and frankly that disappoints me, because the hardware looks great and seems to be very promising

Yea hopefully with the acquisition of Motorolla we will see some improvements on the software side. They make really good looking and built phones but the UI they use is a mess. If you are looking for a good camera App though, the Lenovo Super Camera is one of the best available.

Vibe 2.0 is great and has been getting great reviews. TBH, I didn’t miss MIUI when I used that (especially after the apple-ization aka dumbing down in MIUI 6).

Gorgeous phone. All the Vibe series since the K900 have been lookers with the same brushed metal theme but all look unique. It’s a pity Samsung can’t learn something. Right now the Chinese, especially Huawei’s Mate 7 and Lenovo have some lovely designs. I hope Lenovo produce a 5.5″ version with dual sim and a monster battery.

The price of the S6 will probably be “out of this world” too! Check out the upcoming Vibe X3 renders on Google. Another stunner from Lenovo.

I agree with you, it will be. Vibe X3 from renders looks amazing. I maybe sensible and go for a cheaper phone though – Jiayu S3 (most likely) or possibly CoolPad X7.

The Jiayu is a great bargain. They’re solid phones, I used to have the G5. Just bought the Nubia Z7 Max which is excellent but those Lenovo’s are tempting.

What arse can process faster than that crappy SnapDragon 615. An 801 should be the “norm” for mid-range devices now, since the 805 and 810 are going to be widely available soon, and that the phenomenal MT6752 is already kicking butt.

Fuck you Lenovo, you piece of mediocre shit.

    • balcobomber25
      February 19, 2015

With an 801 it would essentially be the Vivo Xshot, which costs $600. At that price it is no longer mid range.

Or Nubia Z5 mini which you can find for $299 last year. It should be doable to get it lower this year.

        • balcobomber25
          February 20, 2015

The Nubia Z5 doesn’t have hundreds of dollars worth of camera tech in it. This and the Xshot do. That’s why they use a 615. The camera they are advertising is not nearly as cheap as the standard Sony, Samsung and Omnivision units every other flagship uses.

Where did you get that “hundreds of dollars worth of camera tech” figure come from?

“16MP camera with a BSI sensor, a triple-tone LED flash, and optical image stabilization.”

I work with Chinese OEM’s and their suppliers. If their camera has the above specs, depending on who is making it (Sony, Omnivision, Samsung etc) it’s going to cost a lot more than the unit Nubia. It is most likely a custom made sensor by Sony. When the Nubia Z5 first debuted it had a custom sensor built by Sony and Konica Minolta, at the time (2012 when it actually came out) it was unheard of and the Z5 debuted for over $500 in China, close to $800 in some international markets. The camera on that is now becoming the standard that most flagships use. Sensors like the IMX 214 can be bought cheaply nowadays because they are mass produced and used in multiple phones from mid range to flagship. This sounds like (we still need a lot more info) it is going to be custom built for Lenovo, that is not cheap.

Why not Snapdragon 810? Why Snapdragon 615? It make me feel this is just mid range than flagship.

Triple tone flash well this should have chroma flash like Mi Note too.
