Big news in the wearable world today is that Chinese phone maker Elephone are entering the smartwatch space with a rumoured Android Wear device.
Yesterday we broke news of an elegant smartwatch from Elephone with up market design similar to the Huawei Watch and Moto 360. At the time of the original report we believed the Elephone device would be a simple wearable, but more information has emerged saying that Android Wear will come on the device.
Android Wear is the official Google OS for wearable device, and so far is only found on watches made by the large brands. Asus, Huawei, Sony, Morotrola and LG all have Android Wear products, Elephone could be the next.
If Elephone do get Android Wear then it would be huge news. They would become the first of the smaller Chinese brands to get the OS and it would open the doors for other Chinese phone makers to follow in their footsteps.
We have reached out to Elephone for confirmation and are waiting for a response. Keep posted.
They actually claim Android Wear on their site’s home page http://www.elephone.hk/
And there is this forum thread http://bbs.elephone.hk/thread-7803-1-1.html#.VfKsPPlRU-U
Edit: They edited the home page and removed the term “wear” so maybe it’s running Android not Android Wear.
They cant screw it up on a smartwatch (can they?) It needs just – Good materials , Good Screen/battery life, support (updates)bor can they?
