Xiaomi’s Mi 4c is all set to launch in a matter of few hours in China. The September 22nd launch, the model name and a few other details about the smartphone have been confirmed by none other than Lei Jun and Bin Lin, aka two of the biggest bosses at Xiaomi.
The Xiaomi Mi 4c is expected to more or less be a replacement for the Mi 4i. The Mi 4c was glimpsed in leaked pictures earlier today, which you can see below.
Quite clearly, the Mi 4c looks fairly identical to the Mi 4i. The same polycarbonate white back, black front (Xiaomi’s popular ‘panda’ scheme).
What has changed is the USB port (the Mi 4c will have USB Type-C), the processor (from the Snapdragon 615 to the Snapdragon 808) and most likely the RAM. Xiaomi is expected to launch a 3GB RAM version of the Mi 4c as well, while the Mi 4i ships in only a 2GB version.
Other specs, including the lovely 5-inch 1920 x 1080p screen and brilliant 13 mega-pixel camera are expected to stay the same.
Gizchina News of the week
Another something, perhaps not as noteworthy as the specs, that is to change with the Mi 4c is Xiaomi’s packaging. Xiaomi have traditionally shipped their devices (and accessories and gadgets) in plain recycled cardboard boxes. The Mi 4c will reportedly ship in a more youthful colored box.
During our time spent with the Mi 4i, we weren’t super impressed with the phone and hope for the Mi 4c to rectify the shortcomings.
They probably recycle some stuffs from mi4i and sugar coat it abit with a new processor and chare you more.
It is a lot better, but the A57 core does seem to affect battery life. I saw a couple of LG G4 (with SD808) reviews and the battery life seems worse than SD801 phones.
I think it also has something to do with the 2k screen. Guess we’ll see how xiaomi can get it to perform!
there’s nothing wrong with it considering that the MI4i was a good mid-tier except for the SoC.
Speaking of price i believe they will keep the same exact price of the MI4i
which is good considering they are putting a better SoC adding 1GB of RAM.
Price in China will start from about 200$ which will make the MI4c the cheapest SD808 phone out there for a little while
And if they put to sale only 100k units resellers will soon rise the prices high.
Yep, i agree. Let’s hope that they will not limit the volumes.
that’s because it’s an high demanded phone.
just wait a couple of months when they have normal stock.
still better than going through the nonsense of elephone pre-order scam or even worse OnePlus invite system.
It will be sold out in a matyer of minutes if not seconds and considering only 100 000 copies – eh
resellers will fill their stock as usual.
they buy for 200$ and sell almost 300$.
they have more margin than Xiaomi itself lol.
Only 100,000 units in total for sale is of course false news. Still no tech site wants to correct it.
Can’t agree more. Considering the higher price of Moto X Style that has the same processor and similar configuration (minus camera, which is 21 mega pixels and stock android from Google), an SD808 phone from Mi would be a better buy any day.
BTW, a friend got Mi 4i and is really happy with it. She only uses it to take pictures, use WhatsApp and some browsing other than standard feature phone functions.
The Style also has a much bigger screen (5.7″), stereo front speakers and an SD slot. It also runs near stock Android so you can’t really say they are similar ‘cept for the SoC :). The Style has a good price in the US but is way to expensive in the rest of the world.
that one goes for 399$ in the US.
somehow it costs more in the rest of the world.
the 3GB version of MI4c with 32 GB rom will go around 300$ from resellers.
I know, 100$ it’s a lot of money, but personally i would go for the Motorola because it supports US LTE bands, it has NFC (Android Pay), metal body, bigger screen,SD card slot…not to mention the local support.
for anybody else where the Moto X could cost 499$ then this new MI4c is a bargain
i said “will start”
the 3gb version might cost few bucks more, still cheaper than anything else out there
like i thought:
200$ for 2gb version
235$ for 3gb version but also 32gb rom.
still a bargain, even if you get it from resellers at 300$
Yes, great prices.
Best value for money phone from my point of view, especially that is a 5″ and 138mm. We don’t see many good “compact” phones these days.
But we’ll have too wait a couple of month for prices to cool down.
giztop listed it at $329.99 presale for 3GB version. Insane.
totally insane for who’s going to buy it at that price.
resellers are smart, I’ve seen selling oneplus invites in the past, so nothing surprises me anymore.
i would totally wait a couple of months and get it at a reasonable price.
