Chinese phone maker Huawei wasted no time adopting the notch cut-out design with open arms, and now that the notch is gradually been discarded for a more practical solution, the brand much like other phone makers are exploring other options including the pop-up camera options. Huawei has both devices with pop-up cameras and a punch hole cut-out, but those devices are premium and mid-range level devices, and now it seems the company has a workable full-screen solution for its affordable to entry-level devices.
Xiaomi only recently patented two odd design that it might use for its future devices, and now, Huawei has patented a rather odd solution aimed at eliminating the camera and other features from the display area, for a seamless screen experience.
Gizchina News of the week
First spotted by Tigermobiles, Huawei via the patent envisions a smartphone devoid of a notched display which is accompanied by a small chin and slim side bezels, and while the perfect combo would have been a pop-out camera module or a punch hole cut-out, Huawei aims to return to the good old days of the bezel, but this time around a rounded upper bezel which do not intrudes into the display in any way. It is essentially a regular bezel with shortened sides, a thicker area in the center, and rounded edges, and like you would notice from the images, it is home to the in-ear speaker and front-facing camera.
While the vision looks way better than Xiaomi’s reverse notch solution, it seems like a solution fit for smartphones in the low-end and mid-range segments if at all it ever goes into production, given that not all patents see the daylight.
