Huawei is currently fighting for its life as a result of the direct target by the American government. Well, the Chinese manufacturer has been dealt a huge blow by the U.K government. After a meeting by the British National Security Council, the UK government issued a notice which bans Huawei from its 5G networks. This has been long coming as the U.K government has been indifferent over Huawei. However, this latest decision is probably orchestrated by the American government.
Recall that a few months ago, the British government announced modalities for Huawei’s participation in its 5G construction. At the time, it was a big win for Huawei. However, the win did not last for long.
The meeting where this decision was taken was chaired by the prime minister, Boris Johnson. There will be a phased elimination of all Huawei’s equipment from the U.K’s network. British operators have seven (7) years to completely eliminate Huawei’s equipment(s) from their network. However, none of these operators can purchase Huawei’s devices after December 31, 2020.
Gizchina News of the week
According to a press statement, Huawei’s 5G products are currently based on many American technologies. The recent sanctions by the U.S mean that Huawei’s supply will be affected. Technical experts of the National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) believe that this will force Huawei to reconfigure its supply chain. However, the British government does not have sufficient confidence in any of Huawei’s alternatives. Furthermore, the U.K government believes that “new restrictions make it impossible to guarantee the security of Huawei equipment in the future”.
This is the main foundation upon which it base its decision to completely ban Huawei from its network. At least, this is what the official documents say.
Here is a summary of the decisions from the meeting
- The purchase of all Huawei 5G equipment must cease after December 31st, 2020
- All pre-existing Huawei Huawei equipment must not be in the U.K’s 5G network by the end of 2027.
- Those who chose to use Huawei between now and 2027 must not have its equipment in the sensitive ‘core’ parts of the 5G network.
- A statement from the Digital Secretary, Oliver Dowden reads “By the time of the next election we will have implemented in law an irreversible path for the complete removal of Huawei equipment from our 5G networks”.
Obviously, the U.K is a big loss for Huawei. However, the Chinese manufacturer will now have to go back to the drawing board. It will need more market to expand its 5G reach.
What you mean ‘finally’? How is that a good thing for anyone?
The US is playing a childish game. If you think you’re safe with Apple, Samsung, Facebook, Instagram etc … and that they aren’t using questionable practices then you’re delusional. Huawei is only being targeted because Trump’s administration likes to play silly games and blame the Chinese for everything bad in the world.
The UK bowing down to the US bullying is just another confirmation that the UK is the US’ lap dog. That they rather keep Trump & co as friends rather than taking a stand against them. It’s all BS.
I’ll happily keep using my Huawei P30 Pro. But I hate to see the new phones stripped down off the Google Play Store. Google would love to cooperate with them, but they’re just not allowed to do so. This is all so dumb.
