Oppo MagVOOC coming soon as Oppo’s answer to MagSafe

Smartphone makers in the Android side have been exploring wireless charging technologies for quite some time. However, Apple decided to take an alternative route with its iPhone 12 series featuring a new magnetic wireless charging solution dubbed MagSafe. This technology equips a charging coil to the back of the iPhone with the help of its built-in magnets to charge the device at up to 15W wireless charging, the charging speed is not really impressive, but Android OEMs are starting to play with this implementation. Earlier this month, Realme unveiled its MagDart magnetic wireless charging technology. Now, its sister company, Oppo, is preparing its own technology dubbed MagVOOC.

Realme unveiled two MagDart devices that charge smartphones at 15W and 50W speeds. While the first is proof that the company can do something like Apple, the second charger clearly obliterates Apple’s solution. Considering that Oppo and Realme usually share the same technologies, we can expect Oppo to unveil a similar set of chargers.

Oppo MagVOOC charging may be coming soon

Oppo has just filed a trademark for MagVOOC charging which indicates the company’s intentions of exploring this technology. Unfortunately, the trademark listing does not reveal much about the charging mechanism in detail. That being said, we can expect it to be fairly similar to what Realme currently offers. In other words, Oppo could unveil MagVOOC with 50W and 15W magnetic charging speeds. The company could also launch special charging devices featuring such technology. Realme, for instance, unveiled the Realme Flash as the first and only Android smartphone to feature magnetic wireless charging.

We can expect this coming with a future Oppo flagship smartphone, perhaps under a special lineup just like the Realme Flash. The charging mechanism will use the device’s magnets to wireless charge a smartphone with a coil on the back. Realme Flash can be attached to the 50W MagDart device for charging wirelessly. According to the company, the fast-charger can charge a 4,500 mAh battery up to 20 percent in just five minutes and completed it within an hour. The 50W magnetic charger also features an active air cooling system aimed at maintaining the mainboard and coil temperatures at safe levels.

Interestingly, there is another point where the Realme MagDart excels Apple’s MagSafe solution. The Chinese firm MagDart charger is only 3.9mm thick, which is about 26.4% thinner than Apple’s MagSafe charger.

Getting back to the point, we should hear more details about Oppo’s MagVOOC charging solution in the coming months.
